February 21st was a special day for us at Italian Community Services (ICS), as we had the pleasure of welcoming students from Burlingame High School's Italian class and their teacher, the talented Celine Perry as well as representatives from the BHS Italian Exchange Boosters Program.

Burlingame High School is one of the 8 schools that received the John C. Riccio grant from ICS that nurtures and inspires Italian cultural appreciation, language, and community connection.

Providing financial support to a wide range of Italian programs, the John C. Riccio Grant not only promotes language proficiency but also fosters a deeper connection to Italian heritage, enhancing cultural diversity and enriching the fabric of our community.

Our guests joined our beloved seniors for a delicious lunch and a unique moment of sharing. It was wonderful to see different generations gathered around the table, sharing stories, laughter, and experiences.

After lunch, the students had the opportunity to interview our senior community members thus learning much more about them and their lives that have roots in Italy while now living here in the beautiful San Francisco Bay Area. It was a moment of cultural exchange and mutual learning, where our seniors had the opportunity to share their precious life experiences, speak in Italian, and convey the richness of their history.

This experience not only enriched students' knowledge but also strengthened bonds between generations and communities. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to facilitate this meaningful meeting and promote Italian culture and tradition through authentic and engaging experiences.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to the students of Burlingame High School and their teacher Celine Tan Perry for making this day so special. A special thank you also to our seniors for sharing their stories and their love for Italy with such enthusiasm and warmth.

We will continue to cultivate these ties and promote Italian culture and language in our community, as we aim to create similar opportunities in the future.

Una giornata memorabile a ICS!

Mercoledì 21 febbraio è stato un giorno speciale per noi di Italian Community Services (ICS), poiché abbiamo avuto il piacere di accogliere gli studenti della classe di italiano della Burlingame High School e la loro insegnante, la talentuosa Celine Perry, nonché rappresentante del BHS Italian Exchange Boosters Program.

I nostri giovani ospiti si sono uniti ai nostri amati anziani per un delizioso pranzo e un momento speciale di condivisione. È stato meraviglioso vedere diverse generazioni riunite attorno al tavolo, condividendo storie, risate ed esperienze!

Dopo pranzo, gli studenti hanno avuto l'opportunità di intervistare i membri senior della nostra comunità, imparando così molto di più su di loro e sulle loro vite che hanno radici in Italia mentre ora vivono qui nella bellissima area della Baia di San Francisco. È stato un momento di scambio culturale e apprendimento reciproco, dove i nostri anziani hanno avuto l'opportunità di condividere le loro preziose esperienze di vita, parlare in italiano e trasmettere la ricchezza della loro storia.

Questa esperienza non solo ha arricchito le conoscenze degli studenti, ma ha anche rafforzato i legami tra generazioni e comunità. Siamo grati di aver avuto l’opportunità di facilitare questo incontro e promuovere la cultura e la tradizione italiana attraverso esperienze autentiche e coinvolgenti.

Estendiamo i nostri più sentiti ringraziamenti agli studenti della Burlingame High School e alla loro insegnante Celine Tan Perry per aver reso questo giorno così speciale. Un ringraziamento speciale anche ai nostri senior per aver condiviso le loro storie e il loro amore per l'Italia con tanto entusiasmo e calore.

Continueremo a coltivare questi legami e a promuovere la cultura e la lingua italiana nella nostra comunità, poiché miriamo a creare opportunità simili in futuro.
