Fourth Plaque of the San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk: Father Piperni
On Friday, September 5, 2025, the community gathered at Washington Square Park to celebrate a new milestone of the San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk (SFLIHW): the unveiling of the fourth plaque honoring Father Raffaele Piperni — priest, educator, and mentor whose legacy left a profound mark on North Beach and beyond.
The ceremony took place outside Saints Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert Street, and was attended by distinguished guests, including Assemblywoman Catherine Stefani, District 3 Supervisor Danny Sauter, Vice Consul Davide Corriero, President of the San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk Gina Von Esmarch, and children from Saints Peter and Paul School and the Salesian Boys and Girls Club — representing the new generation entrusted with carrying Father Piperni’s heritage forward.
The next plaque will be unveiled on November 20, 2025, in honor of Amedeo Tommasini, founder of the San Francisco Italian Athletic Club and designer of the United Nations Charter. The free unveiling ceremony will be held from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at Washington Square Park.
A Pathway that Tells a Story
The San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk creates a pathway through the heart of North Beach, featuring bronze plaques embedded in the sidewalks. Each plaque honors an Italian American who made a significant contribution to the city’s development — whether in the arts, business, civil rights, culture, entertainment, politics, science, technology, or social services.
A Living Legacy
The mission of SFLIHW, Inc. is to celebrate, preserve, and enrich Italian American heritage and culture in San Francisco’s North Beach (also known as Little Italy), honoring the voices, struggles, and triumphs of those who shaped this vibrant community.

Quarta Targa della San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk: Padre Piperni
Venerdì 5 settembre 2025, la comunità si è riunita a Washington Square Park per celebrare una nuova tappa della San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk (SFLIHW): l’inaugurazione della quarta targa dedicata a Padre Raffaele Piperni — sacerdote, educatore e mentore, la cui eredità ha lasciato un segno profondo a North Beach e oltre.
La cerimonia si è svolta davanti alla Chiesa dei Santi Pietro e Paolo, al 666 di Filbert Street, alla presenza di illustri ospiti, tra cui la Deputata Catherine Stefani, il Supervisore del Distretto 3 Danny Sauter, il Vice Console Davide Corriero, la Presidente della San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk Gina Von Esmarch, e gli studenti della Saints Peter and Paul School e del Salesian Boys and Girls Club — rappresentanti della nuova generazione incaricata di tramandare l’eredità di Padre Piperni.
La prossima targa sarà inaugurata il 20 novembre 2025 in onore di Amedeo Tommasini, fondatore del San Francisco Italian Athletic Club e progettista della Carta delle Nazioni Unite. La cerimonia, a ingresso libero, si terrà dalle 16:00 alle 17:00 a Washington Square Park.
Un Percorso che Racconta una Storia
La San Francisco Little Italy Honor Walk crea un percorso nel cuore di North Beach, con targhe in bronzo incastonate nei marciapiedi. Ogni targa onora un italoamericano che ha dato un contributo significativo allo sviluppo della città — nei campi dell’arte, dell’imprenditoria, dei diritti civili, della cultura, dello spettacolo, della politica, della scienza, della tecnologia o del servizio sociale.
Un’Eredità Viva
La missione della SFLIHW, Inc. è celebrare, preservare e arricchire il patrimonio e la cultura italoamericana di North Beach, a San Francisco (nota anche come Little Italy), onorando le voci, le sfide e i successi di coloro che hanno plasmato questa vivace comunità.
